Lewis William "Lemons" Spinner

Lewis William “Lemons” Spinner, 82, of Pana, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Prairie Rose Health Care Center, Pana. He was born February 14, 1927 in Pana, the son of Joe & Bertha Budds Spinner. Lemons graduated from Pana Township High School, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had lived his entire life in Pana, and was an avid gardener, golfer, hunter, and a life-long Cub fan. He worked at the Pana Refinery until it closed, and then worked for Commonwealth Edison in 1969 until his retirement at age 61. Lemons was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; Pana Knights of Columbus; Pana VFW Post #4431; Pana Sportsman’s Club; & Pana Country Club.
He married Irma White on March 31, 1951 in Pana. They were later divorced.
Lemons is survived by his daughters: Marcia M. Mendenhall & husband Jim, Manhattan, IL & Bridget Unger & husband John, Indianapolis, IN; son: William J. “Butch” Spinner & companion Tina Burdzilauskas, Pana, IL; 5 grandchildren: James William & Timothy Ryan Mendenhall; Grant & Gregg Gruen; and Laura Morrell; 6 great grandchildren: Bostyn & Brooklyn Morrell; Grace, Isbelle, Phillip, & Lillian Gruen; and brothers & sisters: Dee Lynch, Pana, IL; Rose Watts, Decatur, IL; & Raymond “Cotton” Spinner, Pana, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Rusty, Vernon “Skinny”, Frank “Oranges”, Joe, & Robert Eugene; and sisters: Bernice “Babe”, Gwendolyn “Tootsy”, & Norma Jean.

Funeral Information

Funeral mass will be held Monday, January 4, 2010 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by VFW/American Legion/AmVets Honor Guard, Pana. Friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:00 p.m.
