John W. Nohren

John W. Nohren, 66, of rural Tower Hill, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 in his residence.
He was born May 5, 1944 in his Grandmother Cunningham's home in rural Tower Hill, the son of Merrill D. & Elsie M. (Cunningham) Nohren.
John was a graduate of Shelbyville High School, Class of 1962. He then received an Associates Degree in business from Lake Land College in 1970 and a Bachelor's Degree in business from Eastern Illinois University in 1972. He had lived in Charleston & Sullivan prior to moving to Tower Hill in 1981.
John was an entrepreneur after college. He worked as a supervisor at Tube Lock Company in Mattoon. And then in 1978, he & Dave Spurgeon opened the Ace Hardware store in Pana. He became full owner in 1980, and moved the store to its current location in 1993. John had been involved in several other businesses in Pana over the years with a genuine concern for the betterment of the community and its people. He was devoted to his children & grandchildren. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and Gideon International.
John W. Nohren and Carolyn S. Schafer were united in marriage on December 20, 1970 in Pana. She preceded him in death on January 16, 1993.
He is survived by their children: Michael Nohren & wife Maria, Tower Hill, IL; Nathan Nohren & wife Elizabeth, Effingham, IL; Emily Morrison & husband S.J., Edwardsville, IL; grandchildren: Carolyn, Tyler, & Reid Nohren ; brothers & sisters: Robert Nohren & wife Ruby, Shelbyville, IL; Doris Clawson, Shelbyville, IL; Lyle Nohren, St. Elmo, IL; Joan Simmons & husband Pearl, Cowden, IL; and by his sister-in-law: Earlene Nohren, Cowden, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers: Roger E. Nohren, Paul Nohren, & David Nohren.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kenny Inman officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Lakewood. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
