Virgil Lee Taylor, 82, of Pana died Saturday, January 14, 2012 in Pana Community Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1929 in Pana, IL, the son of Charles Ray & Wanda B. Wilson Taylor. A graduate of Pana Township High School, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Virgil lived in the rural Oconee, Ramsey & Pana areas his entire life. In 1991 he retired after working 27 years at Firestone where he was a member of United Rubber Workers. He had worked at Illinois Roses for 11 years prior to Firestone. Virgil loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed drawing, painting pictures and roller skating. He loved big band music and had played the trombone in high school.
Virgil Lee Taylor and Eva J. Hoyle were united in marriage on May 12, 1967 in rural Bingham, IL.
He is survived by his wife Eva J. Taylor, Pana, IL; children: Glenn Lee Taylor, Maryville, IL; Andrew R. Taylor, Edwardsville, IL; Sara Diane Miller & husband Robert A., Edwardsville, IL; Emily Jane Johnson & husband Bryan, Madison, WI; grandson Alexander R. Miller; and by several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jessie Ray Taylor.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Lawrence Gibson officiating. A gathering for friends and family will be one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment service will be at a later date.
