Walter "Max" Trexler

Walter “Max” Trexler, 85, of Pana, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home.  He was born on November 2, 1931 in Fayette County, IL, the son of Floyd & Evelyn (Ritter) Trexler.  He married Lola Bone on January 27, 1951 in Ramsey, IL and she survives him.

Max owned and operated the O.K. Tire Store in Pana and was a member of the Pana Christian Church. He enjoyed anything that involved working with his hands, among those things were buying, selling & refinishing antiques and things with wheels such as bicycles and pinewood derby cars, of which he helped to build two champion cars with his boys. He was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan and had played on bowling and baseball leagues. Above all these things, his greatest love was for his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Vickie (Kenneth) O’Block, Michael (Gina) Trexler, Sandy Rasmussen, Nancy (Carl) Ashcraft, and Steve Trexler all of Pana; grandchildren: Shannon Sowers, Michael Rusty (Kirstin) Sowers, Jenna Trexler, Jared (Britney) Trexler, Jason (Misty) McDonald, Stacey (Missy) McDonald, Wesley (Elicia) McDonald, Kelsey Ashcraft, Kirby (Ross) Casner, Seth (Natasha) Howell, Shane Howell, Connor Trexler, Brock (Hannah) Trexler, and Jacob Trexler; 30 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Maurice Trexler of Vandalia, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Trexler, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Pana Christian Church in Pana, IL with Pastor Dave Altman officiating.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.  Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery, Pana.

Donations Information

Memorials in his honor may be made to the Pana Christian Church or Quad County Hospice and will be accepted by the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, which is assisting Max's family with arrangements.
