Richard "Rich" Stalets

July 19, 1948 - July 12, 2010

Richard “Rich” Stalets, 61, of Pana, died Monday, July 12, 2010 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur. He was born July 19, 1948 in Pana, the son of LaVerne G. & Rosalia “Toots” Altersberger Stalets. Rich graduated from Pana High School in 1966 and attended United Electronics in Louisville, KY. He served in the U.S. Marines and lived his entire life in Pana. He worked at Firestone for 32 years, as well as Doug Miller Construction for several years, and also Ameren CIPS. Rich enjoyed gardening vegetables & flowers, the outdoors, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears, the Illini, and the Pana Panthers football teams. Rich also loved dancing, especially the polka, as well as working out and riding his bike. He was a member of the United in Faith Church, Pana; Elks Lodge #1261; & Moose Lodge, Taylorville.
Rich married Debbie Garrison in October 1970. She survives in Pana, along with their children: Angela Stalets & fiancée Eugene “Sonny” Ginn, Camp Hill, PA; Erika Stalets & husband Jereme Kelley, Cincinnati, OH; & Aaron Stalets & wife Karah, Shiloh, IL; 4 grandchildren: Tyler Stalets, Natasha Stalets, Lucas Kelley, and Quincy Stalets; sisters: Shirley Kuhn & husband Everett, Oreana, IL and Linda Oller & husband Mike, Shelbyville, IL; and step sisters: Barbara Bourke, Witt, IL & Cindy McFadden, Staunton, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne Stalets in 1970; mother, Rosalia “Toots” Crow on September 11, 2009, step father, Clarence Junior Crow; brothers: LaVerne “Doc” Stalets on September 1, 2001 & Robert Stalets on December 10, 2007; 1 brother & 1 sister in infancy.

Funeral Information

Friends may call on Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 16, 2010 in United In Faith Church, 609 Fairgrounds Rd., Pana at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Marilyn Rauch officiating.
Cremation rights will be accorded and private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
