Gary W. Christer, 61, of Taylorville, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in his residence. He was born July 2, 1950 in Detroit, MI, the son of Matthew and Dulcenia Joy (Mann) Christer. Gary was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Pana VFW Post #4431. He lived in Pana most of his life, but had lived in Taylorville for the past 9 years. Gary enjoyed lottery scratch-off tickets, bowling, and golfing.
He married LouAnn Gibson and they were later divorced. He then married Kathy White in 1979 and they were later divorced.
Gary is survived by his son: Chad Christer, Bullhead City, AZ; daughters: Brooke Christer & fiancé Dustin Rosenthal, Morrisonville, IL; & Breann Christer, Taylorville, IL; granddaughter: Alexis Christer; and brothers & sisters: Richard Christer & wife Barb, Pana, IL; Ron Christer & wife Peggy, Pana, IL; Don Christer, Effingham, IL; Kim Bush & husband Rick, Pana, IL; and Linda Shrake & husband Joey, Pana, IL; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father on September 2, 1987 and mother on November 29, 1993.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David Hultberg officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Pana with graveside military rites by Pana Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.
