Ruby Jeanette Burnett, 89, of Pana, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Heritage Health--Pana. She was born March 26, 1928 to Herbert & Edith (Hogge) Waddelow in Beecher City, IL.
Ruby married Robert F. Burnett on Sept 18, 1949 at First Baptist Church in Pana. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2009.
Ruby graduated from Pana Township High School in 1945. After high school, she worked at Penwell’s for several years until stopping to raise her family. She & Bob owned and operated Burnett TV & Appliance and Family Movie Rental Club in Pana and Taylorville where she worked alongside him, after their children were grown, until they retired in 1992.
Ruby was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pana, where she taught Sunday School many years. She bowled on a team in the Haus Frau Bowling League for several years, was active in the Pana Music Boosters, and enjoyed being involved and helping with the activities and organizations in which her children participated. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, canning, sewing and reading.
Ruby is also survived by her children: James (Tami) Burnett of Springfield, IL; Jean (the late Joe) Burton of Pana, IL; Nancy (Vic) Jansen of Effingham, IL; 6 grandchildren: Holly (Justin) Stark, Marissa (C.J.) Castelletti, Brandon (Heather) Burnett, Christopher (Brianna) Burnett, Paul Jansen and Luke Jansen; and 7 great-grandchildren: Cody, Jacob, Colton, Gavin, Aidan, Isabella and Blaze.
Along with her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Joe Burton; granddaughter, Miranda Jo Dressen; 6 sisters, Glenna Wills, Vera Bieber, Marie Beyers, Bernice Wilhour, Opal Fry and Eileen Hardesty; and 3 brother: Gaylord “Bud” Waddelow, Wayne Waddelow and Charles Waddelow.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Amanda Richards officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
