William “Billy O.” Coleman, 58, of Mexico Beach, FL, formerly of Pana, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Bay Medical, Panama City, FL. He was born January 27, 1951 in Pana. William is the son of the late Morris J. and Wilma J. Overby Coleman & grandson of the late Elsie Mills Overby, a former Hillsboro resident. He was a graduate of Pana High School, and served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Fort Hood and Alaska before being discharged in 1978. Prior to moving to Florida in 1995, William worked for Rothley’s Factory in Decatur and was also a truck driver for his brother, Joe Coleman. He loved fishing, Nascar, animals of all kinds, and his cats. He was proud to be a veteran, and was a member of the VFW/American Legion in Panama City, FL. William was an avid collector of Nascar memorabilia, coins, and Zippo lighters. He was proud of his family, and never met a stranger and helped many people.
He is survived by his daughter: Billie Jo Coleman, Pana, IL & son: Chad Coleman, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Shane Coleman & wife Tory, Pana, IL; Shannon Williams, Pana, IL; & Amanda Williams, Pana, IL ; brothers & sisters: Linda Paden & husband Carl, Toledo, IL; Morris R. Coleman, Pana, IL; Debra Embry & husband Lamar, Toledo, IL; & Joe Coleman & wife Annette, Pana, IL; several nieces & nephews; and aunts: Irma Overby Schwab, Mt. Olive, IL; Elta Overby Dornfeld, Maryland Heights, MO; and Betty Jane Forbes, Pana, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother on November 12, 1982 and father on July 20, 2004.
Funeral Information
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Allen Ebbler officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
