Norma E. Denton

Norma Denton, 91, of Pana, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017, in her home. Norma was born August 29, 1926 in Pana, IL to William & Minnie (Buck) Eilers. She married Forrest “Doc” Denton on December 8, 1946 and together they had three children, Gretchen, Eric, and Jay.
Norma was a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed cooking for the surprise guests her husband would bring daily, sewing, knitting, playing cards, dancing, and most of all spending time with family and the friends she turned into family. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and later United In Faith. Many would know Norma for her years running the Red Cross swimming program at the Pana swimming pool. Norma enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and friends. Later in life Norma worked around town at a local travel agency and the Victorian House where she often did as much shopping as working. Norma was kind and generous with an infectious laugh and a quick wit.
Norma is survived by her sons Eric Denton and James “Jay" Denton both of Pana, IL; Grandchildren Christopher Denton, Anne Marie Denton (Dan) Chappelear, and Jessica (Josh) Menees; Great-Grandchildren Denton Chappelear, Haylee Ford, Madison Menees, and Alexandria Menees; and sister Irene Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Forrest “Doc” Denton; Daughter Gretchen Sue Denton; Daughter-In-Law Carol Susan Denton; Brother Roy Eilers; and Sisters Mae Eilers, Lucille Frank, and Helen Kibler.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Rosemond Grove Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Joel Jackle-Hugh officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 8:00-9:30 a.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the United In Faith Church in Pana.
Memorials in Norma's honor are suggested and may be made to the Denton-Lech Benevolent Fund and will be received by the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home which is assisting her family with arrangements.
