Maxine Elizabeth (Betty) Beyers

Maxine Elizabeth (Betty) Beyers, 96, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 with her family at her side at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Betty was born January 10, 1915 in Cowden, IL, the daughter of Wesley and Ruby (Stamper) Scovil. She attended grade school in Cowden. The family moved to Pana in 1929 and she graduated from Pana High School in 1933. After graduation, she attended business school and then worked at First National Bank in Pana until she married Harold Beyers on December 25, 1936. They were married for 21 years until his death in 1957. She was a life-long member of the Christian Church, most recently the Lake of Egypt Christian Church in Marion. She was a Bible School teacher at Pana Christian Church for many years and a president of the Lowell School PTA. After her husband Harold’s death she worked for many years as a receptionist at the McCracken Funeral Home in Pana. In 1997 she moved to Morton, Illinois to be near her son Stephen. There, she was a member of the Morton Christian Church and took part in many church activities and charities. In 2004 she moved to Marion and Parkway Manor Nursing Home, where she could be near her sons David and Stephen, both of whom now live in the area.
Betty is survived by her sons: Stephen Beyers & wife Elaine of Marion and David Beyers & wife Betty of Creal Springs; 9 Grandchildren: Carolyn (Beyers) Krug of Vandalia, OH; Joanne (Beyers) Wunsch of Woodbury, MN; Michael Beyers of Colorado Springs, CO; Julie (Beyers) Rutter of Batavia, IL; Susan (Beyers) Thompson of Seattle, WA; John Beyers of Maryland Heights, MO; Joseph Beyers of Carbondale, IL; Cindy (South) Johnson of Murphysboro, IL; Daphny (South) Blessing of Herrin, IL; and 17 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents; husband, Harold Beyers; and granddaughter, Becky (Beyers) Malkovich.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1 P.M. at the Lake of Egypt Christian Church, Marion with Reverend Leroy Waggoner officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Continued services will be Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at McCracken-Dean Funeral Home in Pana with Joe Mollet officiaiting. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Visitation at the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
