Dorothy A. Schmitz, 89, of Pana, formerly of Oconee died Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Heritage Manor—Pana.
She was born January 6, 1921 in Oconee, the daughter of Winand & Rosa Kessen Schmitz. Dorothy was a graduate of Ramsey High School and other than a short time in Kansas, she lived her life in Oconee until moving to Pana 8 years ago. She had worked at Pana Hospital many years ago; she also had worked at P. N. Hirsch.
Dorothy was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oconee, until she moved to Pana and transferred her membership to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Joetta Bordner, Decatur; Denis Schmitz, Pana; Carolyn Ginger, Mattoon; Charlotte Bailey, Mattoon; Don Schmitz, Oconee; Kenny Schmitz, Pana; and Larry Schmitz, Plainfield, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; nephews Ronald Schmitz & Doug Fleming; brothers: Leo Fleming, Ralph Schmitz and Charles Schmitz.

Funeral Information

Funeral mass will be Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oconee at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Havrilka officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oconee. Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oconee.
