Pastor Donald C. Farris, 71 of Moweaqua died Sunday, January 10, 2010 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Don was born July 9, 1938 in Moweaqua, the son of Ranson O. & Hazel E. Denton Farris. He was raised in Pana and later moved back to Moweaqua. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1964. Donald retired from Caterpillar on May 1, 2000 after 30 years. He worked part time at Moweaqua Elevator, as a truck driver for DCM and for his nephew Tony Stalets building pallets. He was a member of Rosamond Baptist Church and had served as the pastor since 1985. He was a member of UAW #751 and past president of CB-4 Club. He was an avid woodworker and Cub fan, enjoyed bowling and loved his John Deere tractors and giving rides on them to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved his family and his God.
Donald C. Farris and Patricia A. McCarty were united in marriage on April 28, 1962 in Shelbyville Methodist Church by Rev. Kenneth Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife: Patricia Farris, Moweaqua; children: Kimberly Gillett & husband Michael, Moweaqua; Faith Braden & fiancé Rick Tipsword, Moweaqua; Donald E. Farris, Moweaqua, Becky Cowger & husband Norman, Assumption; grandchildren: Michael Simpson, Andrea Simpson, Mitchell Gillett, Stephanie Moreland, Ryan Scott, Alex Scott, Jacob Claxon, Jordan Farris, Logan Farris, Cassidy Cowger, Spencer Cowger; great grandchildren: Evan Moreland & Peyton Simpson; brother: Robert Farris, Assumption; and by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Larry Braden; great grandchild; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 10:30 a,m. with Brother Jim Brown officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home.
